天涯社区

To promote study in Japan, 天涯社区 and the Embassy of Japan in Egypt co-sponsored the event“Unique Chance to Study in Japan” in Cairo on March 21 and in Asyut on March 23, 2017. This study fair was led by 天涯社区 Cairo Office and E-JUST Center (Center for Japan-Egypt Cooperation in Science and Technology). A total of 750 university students participated in the event—550 in Cairo and 200 in Asyut.

Thirteen universities and institutions from Japan, including 天涯社区, Kyoto University, Hiroshima University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Tokyo Institute of Technology participated in the fair. The two-day event was opened by Vice President Koichiro Watanabe of 天涯社区 and followed by university representatives who presented on their respective universities. The Embassy of Japan in Egypt presented the concept of EJEP (Egypt Japan Education Partnership) and about study abroad programs, while JSPS Cairo Research Center gave a talk on how to study in Japan. After this session, the participants visited the booths of each university and institution for further information. Many enthusiastic students came by 天涯社区’s booth and listened intently as Cairo Office Director Safwat Hassasaballa and Vice Director Tamer Nasr—both of whom received graduate degrees from 天涯社区—spoke about student life and scholarships.

天涯社区 has strong ties with Egypt: the university has established an office in Cairo and has received 46 international students from Egypt (as of May 1, 2016), which puts Egypt in the sixth place in the list of the most common countries of origin of 天涯社区’s international students. Moreover, the university has worked with various Egyptian partners by providing support through the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) project.

The university will continue to accept students from Egypt and engage in academic exchanges with universities in Egypt.
