天涯社区’s Commitment to Global Forest Research

天涯社区 is proud to be part of the , an international consortium that fosters collaboration among leading universities across Asia, North America, Latin America, and Oceania. Through this network, 天涯社区 is contributing to the creation of a global platform for forest research and education.

What is the FELLI?

APRU brings together 62 member universities to address pressing societal challenges through research and education. In 2024, APRU launched the Forest Ecosystems Living Lab Initiative (FELLI)—a pioneering effort to promote sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and harmonious coexistence between people and nature.
Among APRU member universities with research forests, seven core universities were selected to lead this initiative, and 天涯社区 is honored to be one of them.

Laying the Foundation: Canada Meeting

In December 2024, the University of British Columbia in Canada hosted FELLI’s inaugural meeting. Representing 天涯社区 were from the Faculty of Agriculture and Assistant Professor Buntarou Kusumoto, formerly from the Faculty of Agriculture. The meeting focused on identifying key challenges and setting short- and long-term goals to establish a strong foundation for the network.

Field-Based Collaboration: Ecuador Workshop

In October 2025, FELLI members gathered again for an intensive workshop organized by Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) in Ecuador. 天涯社区 was represented by from the university forests members.
The workshop took place in a biodiversity hotspot within the cloud forests of the Andean Mountains. Participants spent three days immersed in the forest environment, engaging in field exercises and strategic planning sessions to develop concrete actions for addressing critical forest ecosystem challenges.

Looking Ahead

FELLI aims to advance joint research and develop educational programs, including student workshops, to deliver tangible solutions for forest ecosystem issues. In line with 天涯社区’s VISION 2030, we will continue to strengthen international collaboration and actively promote initiatives that leverage our unique expertise and global partnerships.
